Toyota Receives Zero Emissions
Toyota announced it was granted a Zero Emission Powertrain (ZEP) Executive Order from CARB for its new heavy-duty fuel cell electric powertrain.
The kit includes hydrogen fuel storage tanks, fuel cells, batteries, electric motors, and transmission. OEMs using Toyota’s certified powertrain may be eligible for incentives such as HVIP, the Clean Truck Fund (CTF), and federal incentives.
Toyota has developed multiple generations of powertrain prototypes during development, including those tested in Port of Los Angeles drayage operations.
Production of the CARB ZEP-certified powertrain is slated to start with customers later this year in Kentucky. Toyota's research and development with hydrogen fuel cell technology spans nearly 30 years.
